Out-of-contract Watford goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has been linked with a move to Valencia in the Spanish press this week.

Almunia, 36, is out of contract at the end of the month but was not included on Watford’s released list, suggesting that the former Arsenal man is in the club’s plans for next season.

The Pamplona-born ‘keeper has however been linked with a free transfer return to Spain with La Liga giants Valencia ahead of next season.

Plaza Deportivo report that Almunia could move to the Mestalla to join Valencia as backup to regular No.1 Diego Alves.

Almunia told Plaza Deportivo that Valencia would be a ‘great option’ for him.

The same website suggests that Valencia would have to offload one of the two goalkeepers already on their books – Alves and Vicente Guaita – in order to bring Almunia to the club.
