Defeat Won’t Faze Us – Flores

Head coach Quique Sanchez Flores has reacted how many would think following the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the last game.

He’s not fazed and he’s not gloomy and whilst he was disappointed, he was also pleased with the efforts of the players and the amount of ‘heart’ they once again showed across the 90 minutes.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press interviews following the late two one loss, a philosophically happy Flores explained that he felt the performance all day was good, but especially the discipline and effort of the side when we were arguably unfairly reduced to ten men with Nathan Ake’s sending off.

I can see why he went mind you but I’ve seen similar result in a yellow only, if that depending on what club you play for and what your name is.

‘It was a tough match and the circumstances were difficult. We still had a chance to win the game near the end and I am proud of the performance of my players. We are disappointed with the result, but it is clear that this team has amazing soul.’

The gaffer himself wouldn’t be drawn on the red card incident with just under 30 minutes remaining in the game, instead choosing to focus on the positives and the way the players reacted to it, as obviously we had chances to go ahead and almost held out for the point against a good Spurs side.

‘We were brave to attack and we forced four or five corner kicks near the end, but in the last moment we conceded a goal. I feel sorry for the players because we had the possibility to draw, but I am really proud of my players. It is very cruel but we have to accept this. In football, sometimes these things happen and it is difficult for the players to cope, but they made a very big effort today.’

With the first half of 2015-16 over following promotion last term, I doubt anybody wouldn’t have taken a pretty eighth place sitting in the table with 29 points from the opening 19 games. A handful of points away from the European spots but over ten away from the dropzone.
