Goalkeeper, and former Spur, Huerelho Gomes and Ikechi Anya have both been speaking following last minute defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the last game, but also giving their thoughts on the half way stage of the season.

Beginning with Gomes and his after match interview with the Official Site he was in confident mood stating that Watford could do ‘great things’ this season despite our five match unbeaten run coming to an end.

‘It`s difficult, I believe we did everything to take the result. The fair result was 1-1 after the red card. We were on top before that, the guys did great. With 10 men we created attempts still, but at the end of the game they scored one. We need to keep going though, we can do great things like we already have.’

As for his own performance on the day, despite picking the ball out of the net twice, he felt his former employers struggled given Watford’s work ethic and he didn’t feel he had that busy a game at all.

‘It was fairly quiet for me. Spurs didn’t play the football they usually can, they didn`t create many chances, we gave them chances by bad passes. The guys did everything they could though, particularly 48 hours after the game against Chelsea. They ran all over the place, they tried to score a goal, but the result we came out with was not the best.’

With 19 games gone and it now being the half way stage in the 2015-16 season, Gomes said now everybody was looking forward to another tough test against Manchester City at Vicarage Road in the first game of 2016.

‘I believe these games show everything that we have been doing well, and we can keep going. At the beginning, everyone said we would be relegated, but we are here to fight, to be in a different position to what people expected us to be. We need to recover from two intense games. I`m very tired after this game and so are the boys. It`s not easy mentally, but now we need to prepare and recover. Everything is prepared for the week, and it`s going be another tough game.’

As for Anya, he was equally as bouyant in his own interview as he believed the Spurs performance more than showed what Watford were capable of once again at this level.

‘That`s what we are about this year, we are all working hard and putting in 100 per cent, which was really epitomised today in the performance. We were talking about it after the game when we were reflecting, and the only chances they had really were the goals. They didn`t create much, but as much as it is a positive, it hurts as well. When you go down to 10 men it`s a grind, but I thought we did really well. It’s hard to take, but if you can take a positive that`s the resilience. Aké was sent off in the 60th minute and we battled well all the way to the end, it was just a shame we couldn`t do it.’

He went on to say about the season overall so far, that everybody at the club would’ve more than taken our eighth place 29 point position at this stage of the year if it had been offered, so for him there was no reason to get too down about the losses as we clearly doing better than many expected – so now it’s about continuing that in the second half of the year.

‘That`s the halfway point in the season, and we would have taken this position at the start. Whereas last year our attacking prowess was at the forefront, now it’s from the back to the front. We`re Watford FC and we`re working hard together as one team. Man City is another massive game, but this is why we want to be in the Premier League, these are the ones we all look forward to. It’s all about recovery now, we`ve got a great medical team though and we`ll be raring to go come Saturday.’
