Watford`s Jay Demerit was, as expected, named in USA`s 30-man preliminary World Cup squad yesterday as he took his first steps towards putting himself in the shop window in South Africa.

Our star spangled Captain America was 1 of 10 British based Yanks to be included in Bob Bradley`s initial ‘roster` bound for a training camp in New Jersey and Philadelphia ahead of the clash with England on June 12th.

Demerit, who has been in and out the Watford rearguard this season due to injury and form, admits he wants the World Cup to open a few doors for him to a big summer move but needs to cement his place in the final 22 first during friendlies with Czech Republic, Turkey and Australia.

Here at VitalWatford we`ve split loyalties – on one hand we are desperate for Wayne Rooney and Co to run him ragged in the Group C clash but are all too aware that a good showing from our wantaway skipper could well add value to his price tag.

The full British-based Yanks bound for the US 30-man training camp is:

Guzan [Villa], Hahneman [Wolves], Howard [Everton], Demerit [Watford], Spector [W`Ham], Dempsey [Fulham], Altadore [Hull], Holden [Bolton], Edu [Rangers], Beasley [Rangers]
