Rhoys Wiggins has elected to join Bournemouth’s League One rivals Charlton rather than Watford.
Watford had agreed a price for Wiggins, believed to be 250k, but the Welsh full-back was soon given permission to speak to Charlton after they too met the asking price.
It was reported yesterday evening that the former Crystal Palace and Norwich City full-back would choose the south Londoners over Watford by Sky Sports News and that has this morning become reality
Speaking to the official Charlton website, Wiggins said:
‘I’m very excited. I know the owners have invested quite heavily this summer and I’ve seen the signings that have gone on before me, so it’s all looking good.
‘The vibe I got from the place is of a club on the way up. I’m looking forward to what lies ahead.’
So there we are, rejected by a player who in March said he wanted to leave the Cherries to step up a level. Charlton will be in the promotion shake-up this season in League One so Wiggin’s choice could turn out to be either very daft or very shrewd.
Time will tell…
