Watford eased to victory in their first pre season match since their trip to France against a competitive Wealdstone side thanks to goals from Mark Yeates, Chris Iwelumo and Marvin Sordell.

The hornets fielded a first team including all their big players, Loach, Mariappa, Taylor, Eustace and new signings Yeates, Craig Forsyth and Iwelumo.

Deeney was impressive in the hour he played and had the first chance but his shot was brillianty saved by former Hornets Academy player Jonathan North in the Wealdstone goal.

Yeates, who seems a player happy to ‘have a go’, opened the scoring when he cut inside from the left flank and placed the ball into the bottom corner from edge of the area.

Iwelumo, only signed that morning, doubled the lead on his debut when a cross from the right found it’s way to him at the back post and he volleyed in.

Into the second half and a change for Watford with Marvin Sordell replacing Lloyd Doyley and our first opportunity to see Craig Forsyth play left back. He coped competently.

Wealdstone pulled one back when a slide rule pass found striker Richard Jolly in the clear and he slotted home through Loach’s legs.

Sordell then increased Watford’s lead again when he took the ball down, turned, and fired hard and low into the bottom corner.

A worthwhile work out for Watford who eased comfortbaly to victory with the new signings, particularly Iwelumo, looking like they are adding to the squad.
