The pre-season preview continues with the perennial underachievers, Coventry City…

Gaffer: The unknown Andy Thorn who got the Sky Blues job towards the end of last season having done well as caretaker.

Position 10/11: A disappointing 18th. But, having sacked former ‘Orns boss Aidy Boothroyd for dragging Cov towards the relegation zone, the ship was steadied by a decent finish under Thorn.

In: Chris Dunn (Northampton Town, undisc.) and Joe Murphy (Free Transfer).

Out: Lee Carsley, Stephen O’Halloran, Marlon King, Michael McIndoe, Kieren Westwood, Isaac Osbourne (all released) and Aron Gunnarsson (Coventry City, undisc.).

Star Man: Welsh international Fredy Eastwood has re-found his scoring boots in the last couple of the seasons at the Ricoh, taking his Sky Blues tally up to 17 in 108 appearances for the club.

The former Wolves and Southend forward has been used out wide quite often in fairness to him but the ability is clearly there to score goals having done so impressively for Southend.

Best Business: Replacing Sunderland-bound ‘keeper Kieren Westwood with Scunthorpe’s No.1, Joe Murphy.

Taking advantage of Scunny’s relegation to League One to snap up the Eire cap on a free could prove to be a wonderful piece of business.

Prediction: An inexperienced manager and a loss of key players coupled with a poor squad in all suggests to me that Coventry will be scrapping to stay up this season.

On paper it looks like we’ll struggle but Andy Thorn galvanised the squad in the final ten games of the season and lifted spirits. His style gets the best out of our best players so we might surprise a few.

I think it’s certainly going to be an interesting one either way for you!
