The Vicarage Road boo-boys tried their damnedest but Mike Williamson has insisted that his er, welcome back to Watford on Saturday was “all good“!

Indeed, the towering centre back did endure a hostile Hornets return from the home fans but, despite Williamson claiming it was “as expected”, it certainly wasn`t anywhere near the level of abuse usually reserved for the likes of Lee Cook, David Connolly or Brendan Rodgers (if he`d managed to keep his dream job at Reading, that is)!

In fact, one fan on the W`Observer site reckons ‘the Watford crowd gave the ball-boys more stick than they gave MW`?

Yes, the boos rang out before kick-off and yes there were baitings for a red card when Williamson hauled down Helguson in the box – even Tony Cottee said Mikey boy was “a lucky, lucky boy!” – but in fairness, though the Newcastle Chronicle claimed it was “frosty“, here at VitalWatford, we`d say the crowd catcallings were all a tad luke warm?

?a bit like Watford`s entire performance in truth!

Williamson commented in the Chronicle Live “As far as the reception was concerned, it was all good. That`s what football is like and I expected it?The crowd were going to get into everything and I got booked – but that`s football”.

And sadly for the boo-boys the odd bit of stick did nothing to put Williamson off his game. Oh, no – in fact he put in a rock steady performance at centre back and Chris Hughton beamed “You never know how players are going to react but I thought he was excellent“.

So those strained vocal chords were all for nothing then!!!
