Beppe Sannino says Watford can ‘forget’ defeat at Doncaster on Tuesday after a record-breaking win over Barnsley on Saturday.

The Hornets put the disappointment of the injury-time defeat by Rovers out of their minds with a sixth consecutive win in all competitions without conceding in the 3-0 demolition of Barnsley – a feat that has never been achieved by a Watford side before.

Cristian Battoccio set the Hornets on their way with a superb opener, half-volleying home from the impressive Daniel Pudil’s left-wing centre.

The game was effectively over by the 16th minute as Troy Deeney rammed home his 17th of the season via a deflection on the line.

Watford relinquished some of their control at 2-0 but Barnsley were unable to find a route back into the game and with 16 minutes remaining Alex Merkel made sure, slamming the ball into the roof of the net after good work by Ikechi Anya.

Speaking afterwards to Sporting Life, Sannino said that his side could still have done more.

‘It’s a good win because through this game we can forget Doncaster.

The Italian continued: ‘I’m pleased about the performance of the guys because they were able to give some cheer to the crowd, but I am demanding guy and I think we could improve.

‘I think that Barnsley were facing a team very angry today, I don’t think they were poor.’

Watford were in total control at 2-0 up and another thrashing similar to the defeats of Blackpool and Millwall looked on the cards until Watford took their foot off the gas.

‘I’m the kind of coach that even when we win, I don’t watch only the positives of the performance,’ said Sannino.

‘I’m pleased with my players because they did what I asked them to do and when I say we can improve I’m complimenting players because I think we can improve, not because we didn’t do a good job today.’

The win leaves the Hornets in 11th place in the Championship with 35 games played.
