Adam Thompson has completed his permanent switch to League Two Southend United, as expected.

Thompson, 21, impressed on loan at Roots Hall during the first half of the season and Shrimpers` boss Phil Brown had been quick to confirm he wanted the defender to join permanently.

“I`m absolutely delighted to have signed Adam and brought him in to the football club on a permanent basis,” Brown told The Echo News.

“He`s someone who I have enjoyed working with this season and I think he`s put in some very good performances.”

Brown continued: “Adam wanted to remain a part of what we`re doing here and I think that speaks volumes about how well we`re doing.”

Thompson made his Watford bow in 2010 under Malky Mackay – whilst still a scholar – in a League Cup tie against Notts County.

A full Northern Ireland international during his time at Vicarage Road, Thompson also captained his country`s Under-21s.

In total, Thompson made nine league and cup starts for Watford and a further seven substitute appearances, scoring once.

Good luck, Adam.
