Watford have this morning signed Burnley’s Scottish international forward, Chris Iwelumo for an undisclosed fee.

The 32 year-old striker joins on a two-year contract having fallen out of favour at Turf Moor last season.

Iwelumo started his professional career in Scotland with St Mirren before moving to Danish outfit FC Aarhus Fremad for two years.

The four-cap Scot returned to blighty with Stoke City where he scored 15 in four years, spending part of his time at the Britannia out on loan at Cheltenham, York and Brighton before joining Colchester United via a brief spell with Alemmania Aachan.

It was in Essex where Iwelumo took off, scoring 35 goals in 92 appearances before further fruitful spells at Charlton and Wolves.

Snapped up by the Clarets in the summer of 2010, Iwelumo started well before a change of management put paid to his chances in Lancashire where he finished with 11 from 45.

Born in Coatbridge, Iwelumo made his international debut against Norway where he will be remembered for an incredible one-yard miss.

Iwelumo strikes me as just the signing we need. A big, strong lad, used to leading the line who will prove to be a good foil for the smaller, nippier Marvin Sordell.

Welcome to Watford Chris.
