According to Sky Sports, M’Baye Niang has expressed a desire to return to Serie A. In fact Sky sources claim he actually texted Watford owner Gino Pozzo ‘appealing for a return to Italy.’

Having started impressively enough, scoring a goal in his second appearance against Burnley – he only added one more in his 15 games for the club – and helping Watford to victory over Arsenal, on-loan AC Milan forward Niang wasn’t pleased when taken off against Chelsea recently.

Watford secured Niang, 22, on a loan deal from AC Milan in January that was due to become permanent this summer. However, the terms of this agreement haven’t ever been revealed.

It’s reported Niang has failed to settle in England and a ‘number of reasons have caused a desire to return to Italy’ including the recent decision to part with Walter Mazzarri, who engineered his Vicarage Road arrival.

Always highly rated as a teenager, but often struggling to fulfil that potential since transferring to AC Milan from Caen in 2012, it might not be the worst thing if Watford didn’t sign Niang – especially if he’s not that keen on staying – as the former French U21 hasn’t exactly set the world alight during his spell with the Hornets so far.
