Sean Murray has joined League One side, Wigan Atheltic, on a one month loan deal, confirms both parties.

Murray is overcoming a major knee injury, which required the attention of surgery, and has been permitted to join Wigan Atheltic on loan to get some game time under his belt and rebuild his fitness.

The manager of the Latics, who were recently relegated from the Championship, has however stated that the club will review the option of extending Murray’s loan deal at the DW Stadium, after the initial month.

“Sean`s here for a month initially, then we`ll reassess the situation, as with all the loan signings,” Gary Caldwell told Wigan’s official site, adding, “He is someone we know all about from our scouting system, has good first team experience for his age and will add good competition to the squad.”

The twenty-one year old, who rose through the club’s academy, had his first taste of football on the road to recovery in January, as the Hornets lost 3-0 away to Chelsea in the FA Cup Third Round.

Being part of the Republic of Ireland U21 team, Murray has made eighty-four appearances for the Hornets since making his competitive debut in 2011, scoring fourteen goals.

WD Sport reported that Wigan were amongst Championship outfits Rotherham and MK Dons chasing Murray for a loan move.

Murray’s departure has knocked down the number of homegrown players in the squad, as his fellow academy product, Jonathan Bond, departed for Reading earlier on the window, signing a permanent deal, Lloyd Doyley becoming out of contract, along with reports floating around that Lloyd Dyer could be set to leave the club.
