Chester born, Mike Jones, has been appointed to referee Watford’s Premier League opener away to Everton.

Last season, Jones had the reins of thirty-four games, and handed out one-hundred and seventeen cards, whilst giving ten players an early bath.

You’d only have to go back to April, to look at the last Watford game that the forty-seven year old officiated, as the Hornets defeated promotion rivals Middlesbrough, 2-0 in front of the Sky cameras, as he sent two players from both sides into the book.

For Everton, this is the second successive season where Jones has refereed their opening day clash, as Jones was wearing black when the Toffees drew 2-2 away to new boys Leicester City last season.

The last game that Jones took charge of was Burnley’s final hurrah in the Premier League last season, as they scraped a 1-0 away win to Aston Villa on the final day, where Jones dished out three yellow cards.
