Former Watford gaffer Malky Mackay has revealed that he was not allowed contractually to release a statement having left the club over the summer.

The decision by the former Watford boss to join Championship rivals Cardiff City over the summer did not go down well with a number of supporters.

However, the lack of a statement to praise the club upon departure disappointed Watford fans even more.

“I am hearing that people were upset that I didn`t make a statement but contractually I wasn`t able to make a statement at the time about how good these people are.’

Mackay continued:

“It is good that this week has come and questions are asked because now I can talk about certain parts of it.

“I had my reason for leaving, that I won`t go into, but there are still good people at this football club.’

It certainly makes you wonder what Mackay’s reasons for leaving were…
