Having recovered from the groin injury picked up on international duty with the United States, Watford’s Captain America is once again back on the treatment table.

The all-action centre half picked up a bizarre injury whilst the team was in Plymouth for the Hornet’s 1-0 win a fortnight ago.

‘It was a freak thing, we were in our hotel and as I took out my contact, I cut my eye and I ended up getting an infection from that cut. It only got worse and worse and I still can’t see out of that eye.’ DeMerit recently told the YA [Yanks Abroad News]

DeMerit went on to discuss the possiblity, groan, of surgery:

‘Scar tissue is starting to develop which is blurring my vision so I’m seeing a specialist and I might have to have surgery. I quickly recovered from my groin injury but my eye is going to take time.’

‘You just can’t mess with your eyes so I’m going to manage it right and try to get better as soon as possible whether it’s through surgery or another course of action.’

Malky Mackay’s search for a centre half will no doubt gather pace in light of another lay-off for the American.
