Former Hornets appointed at Wimbledon

Former Watford midfielder Neal Ardley has been appointed as manager of League Two Wimbledon, with former Watford centre-back Neil Cox his assistant.

Ardley made over 250 appearances for the Wombles before moving to Watford on a free transfer in the summer of 2002, where he would go on to make 111 league appearances as a Golden Boy.

Wimbledon relieved previous manager Terry Brown of his duties in the middle of September and have been searching for his successor since.

There had been talk that former Watford captain Robert Page, who led the club to the Premier League in 1999, would take up the post, however Ardley became the clear favourite today.

Forty year-old Ardley began his coaching career at former club Cardiff City, looking after the club’s academy after hanging up his boots at Milwall in 2007.

He had previously begun by taking his coaching badges at the ripe old age of 24, whilst still plying his trade for the Dons.

Ex-Hornet’s skipper Cox joins Ardley as his number two, having taken charge of non-league outfit Leek Town briefly in 2010.

Cox made 219 league appearances for the ‘Orns after signing for the club in 1999.
