Football League vote to reduce subs

In an EGM at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium today, the Football League voted in favor of a reduction of substitutes for league games.

Having adopted the Premier League initiative of seven subs two seasons ago, the League has now broken away to return to naming just five.

The decision comes in light of the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules which will put greater restraint on clubs hoarding massive squads.

To ever switch to seven in the football league was ridiculous in my eyes – how are clubs in financial trouble/the lower echelons of the Football League expected to finance a squad of 18 for a matchday and usually more?

Seven substitutes will still be named for the F.A Cup and League Cup.
