Watford skipper John Eustace went under the knife in the past couple of days for a minor back problem and will be out for a ‘few weeks’.

The 32 year-old midfielder hasn’t been since the the Hornet’s opening day victory at Crystal Palace and it was announced yesterday that the skipper had undergone an operation to correct the problem.

Speaking to watfordfc.com, Gianfranco Zola confirmed the news:

There`s no point asking John to play with pain, because this would reduce his capabilities and possibilities during the game,’ said Zola.

“Hopefully we`ll have him back in action in a few weeks.”

Watford have struggled without the influence of their vastly-experienced captain, leaving Jonathan Hogg to do all the defensive work in a midfield which has not been at it’s best since opening day.

No rush John!
