Elton to tighten purse strings?

Any hopes Watford fans had that Elton John`s reinvigorated interest in the goings on in WD18 would see the him inject some much needed cash into the club coffers were surely put to bed yesterday.

Just when it seemed that the Rocket Man and the club`s big wigs were back in a snuggly sharing, caring relationship, along comes the credit crunch and it appears our re-appointed Honourary Life President is one of the hardest hit – according to the 2009 Music Millionnaires Rich List .

Elton has reportedly seen his earnings fall by 27% in the last year – an estimated loss of around £60m (or half of Nathan Ellington monthly salary & Mat Sadler`s appearance fees ?!??), according to reports across the web.

Still its not all bad news, the Hornets host famous fan (after Geri Halliwell) is still keen to put on a bit of a do at the Vic next summer and stage a concert which could add around an extra £3m for new signings if everything goes to plan.

Mind you, given he`s likely to have slipped a bit in the ol` Sunday Times Rich List (he was 372nd last year) he might look to pocket a few quid from the Stadium tour into his own lil` piggy bank first.

After all, a reported personal fortune of ONLY £175m surely isn`t nearly enough to keep him in freshly cut flowers for the entire year? let alone pay to get rid of the likes of Kabba, Poom and Eustace off the wage bill!
