Watford will have a new East Stand this season after a deal was agreed with a construction firm over the weekend, The Watford Observer has revealed.

The Hornets’ decrepit East Stand – the only original structure left standing since the club moved to Vicarage Road in 1922 – will be demolished and re-build to hold 3000 fans.

A deal with stadium construction experts GL Construction was struck over the weekend and a contract to demolish the existing structure has already been agreed with local firm Gaywoods.

Demolition work is expected to start in the next week ahead of a new 3000 capacity structure being built in its place.

A ‘permanent grandstand structure’ will be built during the season – made of steel and built on concrete foundations – which supporters will be able to access via turnstiles on Occupation Road.

Facilities including the tunnel, changing rooms and media centre will all be demolished.

There will also be exta hospitality facilities built in the south west corner of the ground.

The Watford Observer will be given exclusive access to precise plans and designs in the coming weeks.
