Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott says he is keen to extend the loan deal for Hornet’s forward, Joe Garner.

Garner, 24, re-joined the Cumbrians on-loan on September 17 and has struck once in three starts since returning.

With his opportunities at Vicarage Road limited, the Blackburn Rovers trainee would be better served staying with United for the time being.

Speaking to Carlisle United’s official site, Abbott said he hoped to extend Garner’s stay:

‘We’re going to make contact over the next couple of days to see if the loan can be extended because he won’t be available for Tuesday unless we can make that one work. I think Joe is keen to stay, we’re keen to keep him and we just need Watford to rubber stamp it.’

Garner, who notched 19 times in 53 games for the Cumbrians during his first spell at the club, said he was keen to stay put:

‘I’m very happy here and I think I’ve got more to come,’ admitted Garner.

‘It’s a good group of lads and I’m getting regular football, so if something could be sorted out I’d definitely want to stay.’
