Cristian Battocchio marked his third Italy Under-21 cap with another goal for the Azzurrini last night

Hornets midfielder Cristian Battocchio marked his third Italy Under-21 cap with another goal for the Azzurrini last night in the 1-0 defeat of Belgium.

Battocchio had scored his first Italy Under-21 goal against Belgium in the reverse fixture during the previous international break.

The diminutive midfielder was at it again last night as Italy avenged their home defeat with a 1-0 victory in Genk.

Replaced nine minutes from time by Chievo’s Riccardo Improta, Battocchio now has three caps and two goals for the Azzurrini.

Having played two games less than the Belgians, Luigi Di Biagio’s men sit second in Group 9 with six points from three matches.
