Watford supremo Gianfranco Zola has downplayed rumours of further signings, despite alleged interest in ex-Roma defender Marco Cassetti.

There have already been eight new additions this summer, with six of those arriving on-loan from Udinese and Granada, and a further two signing permanently on one-year contracts.

Watford have been linked heavily with Udinese’s young Brazilian centre-back Neuton in recent days, a name which first cropped up after the Pozzo family’s takeover of the club.

This afternoon the name of 35 year-old Cassetti has been heavily speculated with Observer_Owl pouring further fuel on the fire on Twitter by tweeting the following:

‘Not sure for definite but #WatfordFC’s new signing may be Marco Cassetti. Been linked with the club+looks like guy I saw at Vic 2 weeks ago.’

Zola however, remains unmoved on his stance over new additions and told The Watford Observer so again today:

How many new players do you want? We are celebrating our victory and we have to be very happy about that,’ joked the boss.

“Don`t forget we have players coming back – we have Alexandre Geijo to come back and we have other important players coming back – so it is a team that I can see improving a lot.

“And the players will all improve as their condition gets better because the type of football we are trying to play is quite expansive so their fitness needs to be at the top all of the time.”

Cassetti left Roma at the end of last season following a six-year spell with The Wolves. Capable of playing at either right-back or right-midfield, Cassetti won eight caps for Italy between 2005 & 2008.
