Watford appealed the red card shown to Marvin Zeegelaar following the game against Burnley last Saturday, but that appeal was rejected.

The 27 year old defender was shown a straight red card for a two footed challenge on Steven Defour in the one nil defeat at Turf Moor and with head coach Marco Silva calling it ‘harsh, harsh, harsh, harsh’ the club did send in an appeal to the Football Association.

That appeal has been flat out rejected by the FA panel however and the Dutchman will now serve a three game ban, missing out on games against Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town and Brighton.

Speaking to the BBC following the game, Silva said of the incident.

‘It was a harsh decision. It’s not a red, it changed everything, and after two or three minutes they scored.’

Plenty however disagreed Silva, and not just the FA.
