Having so often been linked with a move to the Premier League over the years it was Watford who recently managed to secure the signature of Derby’s England U21 international Will Hughes.

A deal that set Watford back an initial £4.5m, rising to as much as £7m, brought the forward to Vicarage Road as Marco Silva’s first signing since his appointment as Hornets boss.

Not a bad signing to announce yourself really was it?

The overwhelming opinion from those who voted in our recent polls is that Hughes will be a ‘great signing’ and at the costs involved could end up becoming a ‘potential bargain’ for Watford.

What poll asked
Will Hughes?

How you voted
Great signing, potentially a bargain 79%
Very good squad addition 11%
Not good enough 7%
Average 3%

Yes, Hughes has had some well documented injury issues, problems that perhaps prevented him from making the step up to the Premier League already, but we can’t underestimate the level of commitment he showed to Derby in staying in the Championship – that was reflected by the Rams’ reluctance to offload him.

Providing Hughes is back to his best, and can step up to the topflight, Watford have secured a quality footballer with his best years ahead of him that could quite literally, in an era of over inflated transfer fees, prove a snip.

Next up, we’re looking for your views on Silva’s appointment?

The Pozzo family haven’t been backwards in coming forward when it comes to the hiring and firing of a boss – can the Portuguese finally be the man the owners settle on as Watford look for some long-term stability.

The poll is asking
Will Marco Silva FINALLY be the one for the Pozzo

Options to vote
Yes, showed at Hull what he can do
No, too inexperienced
Maybe, but too early to say
Hmm, will the Pozzo’s EVER be happy?
