Today Vital Watford begin to look at out of favour players, first under the microscope is Matty Whichelow
As the season draws to a close, it`s time for players, managers and the relevant hierarchy to sit down and discuss the future of certain players. In this series Vital Watford look at the futures of those who are out of contract, out of favour, or only on-loan at Vicarage Road.
This week it`s the turn of Matty Whichelow. Get involved by commenting below to let us know whether or not you agree or disagree.
Matty Whichelow impressed everyone last season. He brought panache, guile, pace, trickery and a certain explosive unknown quantity – all qualities the side lack at present, and this has heightened the clamour for his introduction, which in turn has hoisted him up to be some sort of hero, ready to grab the team by the scruff of the neck and make us brilliant again.
Clearly though, he has regressed. Sean Dyche, Paul Tidsdale and Gary Waddock are not idiots, and Whichelow has been around all three this season, without really impressing any of them.
Much like Michael Bryan, if you can`t impress in an ailing lower league side then there is a deep-rooted problem. Whether that is in attitude or in ability, who knows, but with only five substitutes in the Football League at the moment and greater financial manoeuvrability available to Sean Dyche than Malky Mackay, Whichelow has suffered and will continue to do so.
He HAS to go out on loan for a season & prove himself.
