The Mirror is reporting Mauro Zarate could be on his way to Vicarage Road.

With Watford reported ready to offload Odion Ighalo to West Brom a replacement would be needed. It’s claimed the Hornets are ‘confident’ of signing Fiorentina’s Zarate on loan.

The 29 year old is familiar with the Premier League having previously had spells with Birmingham and West Ham. Watford are said to be in talks with Fiorentina about a loan deal for Zarate with the view to a permanent deal in the summer.

Walter Mazzarri has seen the Watford squad gripped by injury but did secure the signature of Tom Cleverley from Everton last week. His loan deal will become permanent in the summer assuming the Hornets remain in the Premier League.

Should Ighalo complete his rumoured switch to West Brom another attacking option is a must with Argentine forward Zarate seemingly the one Mazzarri – who continues to have the support of the board – is looking to sign.

Bournemouth’s Max Gradel has also been linked recently but Sky Sports has claimed – citing Sky sources – Watford ‘will not be pursuing a deal’ for the 29 year old who is currently on Africa Cup of Nations duty with the Ivory Coast.
