It has been reported that the Hornets are keen on re-signing last year’s top scorer and Championship Player of the Season Matěj Vydra.

As the Watford Observer reports, the Czech striker’s signature is high on the list of priorities for Watford this summer.

Vydra has been on loan at Premier League club West Bromwich Albion for the duration of the 2013/14 season, but has struggled to hold down a first team place.

His contribution to the West Midlands side has seen him start just nine times, making 14 appearances in addition to this as a substitute. So far this season the pacey striker has only netted three times for the Baggies.

It remains to be seen whether the signing would be a loan move or permanent transfer, but the most likely scenario would see Vydra move on loan from parent club Udinese, as the 22-year-old signed a five year deal with the Italian outfit only last summer.

The signing of Vydra would make sense, as it has often been the case this season that the team has lacked pace, especially going forward. The link up play that turns defence into attack has been too slow on many occasions.

Though the loss of Swiss midfielder Almen Abdi to injury for the majority of the season may have a lot to do with this, the lack of a quick outlet up front has caused the Hornets to struggle, with a lack of ‘Plan B’ available.

This was particularly evident away from home, where last season’s counter-attacking play was devastating, resulting in 12 victories away from Vicarage Road. In contrast, this season’s efforts away from home have yielded just four wins.

The Watford Observer goes on to state that the Hornets will be looking to complete the majority of their business as early as possible this summer, and Vydra is one of several transfer targets already identified.

Dániel Tőzsér is another target who is sought by the club, and again the expectation is that business will be done early in this case. As we reported on Monday, the Hungarian is keen to sign for Watford, and it looks like it may not be long before we hear news of all parties coming to an agreement.
