Adrian Boothroyd has said ‘Finishing third is not our aim this season,’ adding if that was how Watford set their targets they would ‘just sink’.

The Hornets were expected to have a bumpy ride this season but instead are lying in a very healthy 4th with 10 wins, 8 draws and just 4 losses.

Boothroyd, who at 34 is the youngest manager in the Championship league, told the official site:

‘We’ve got to kick on again and I’ll be on everyone’s back making sure they do. Because if they don’t, they won’t be here for very long.’

Seems captain Gavin Mahon agrees! He said the Hornets can still improve and that Boothroyd has told his team is only playing at 60-70% of their potential.

‘If we can get just a little more consistent throughout performances, then we’ll improve.’ He also thinks that Watford aren’t far away from the understanding and familiarity that Reading and Sheffield United have in their teams.

‘We talked about being on the road to promotion and I think we’re on that road. There’s still a long way to go and, if we can add another 10 or 15% to each player’s performance then I think we’ll be up there.’
