Sky SportsSky Sports are reporting this afternoon that Watford head coach Marco Silva could make a move for Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson.

The 23 year old former England Under 21 international is highly sought after following his displays for the Swans this season, despite their on pitch struggles which see them at the foot of the Premier League table, but Watford aren’t the only club linked with a potential interest in the player as West Ham United are also mentioned in reports.

Mawson does have 18 months remaining on his deal at the Liberty Stadium and Swansea don’t want to lose him this month either, so if interest is right this one could rumble on until deadline day if his parent club finally receive an offer they believe is too good to turn down.

Sky Sports quote Mawson from an interview he held with them earlier in January.

‘Whatever happens, happens. If offers come in then that is nothing to do with me. All I can do is affect my performances. I’m a Swansea player and I want to do well here. It is flattering to hear certain things but I have got to do what I can for this club. I’m contracted for another two-and-a-half years after this, whether that is in the Championship or hopefully in the Premier League, I am signed to be here so that’s all it is at the moment, it’s just talk.’
