With Josh Walker and Jure Travner both moving out today, Malky Mackay is set to bolster his squad with the loan signing of Danny Drinkwater.

The Manchester United midfielder can play anywhere across the midfield and was previously on loan with Cardiff City this season making 12 appearances for the Bluebirds.

Drinkwater was re-called from the Cardiff City Stadium by Sir Alex Ferguson after Dave Jones capture Jay Emmanuel Thomas and Aaron Ramsey on loan in the space of 48 hours.

The 21 year-old midfielder made 37 appearances on loan with Lee Clark’s Huddersfield Town last season but is yet to debut for the Red Devils.

With Drinkwater playing in the same position as Josh Walker who was moved out on loan once more today it seems the 21 year-old Middlesbrough academy graduate is even further down the Vicarage Road pecking order than first thought.

That Mackay has moved to sign Drinkwater so soon after sending Walker out on loan suggests the Scot does not rate 21 year-old Walker as highly as he did when he signed him.

Welcome Danny!
