It appears New Watford`s old reputation for their up and at ’em long ball style simply won`t go away despite the much changed, much improved approach on show this season.

But it seems that word of Watford`s new ‘sexy` football is not filtering down to the opposition after W`Ham gaffer Gianfranco Zola declared he was “surprised” by Watford`s style after their 1-0 Carling Cup ‘hammer`ing.

All the pre-match talk out of the East Enders camp had been of an expectant rude awakening at Vicarage Road. Even England`s 7th best keeper Robert Green warned W`Ham`s bunch of jolly Johnny Foreigners that they “wouldn`t have come up against anything like it before”.

“Expect a few bruises” Green said. Well Robert, the only bruising done was that to the Premiership big boys ego`s as the Hornets passed them off the park.

And Zola couldn`t help but state the bleeding obvious, admitting “Watford were much better than we expected them to be”.

First rule of management Gianfranco – never underestimate your opposition….

…and kids, always do your homework.
