Former Watford skipper Gavin Mahon has re-joined the club for training though gaffer Sean Dyche insists there is ‘no guarantee’ of a contract.

The 34 year-old midfielder played for Watford for seven years before being ousted on-loan to Queens Park Rangers as Watford’s promotion bid hit the skids.

Mahon left QPR this summer after an 18-month period blighted by injuries that culminated in a loan spell with London rivals, Crystal Palace, where he failed to play a game.

Speaking to the Watford Observer, Sean Dyche said:

“It depends on the situation. I know Gavin Mahon personally from our playing days together; he is an excellent pro and a good friend.

“I said to him it would be no problem him coming in to train but there is no guarantee regarding his future. He will also no doubt have other offers.”

Meanwhile, the Watford Observer’s ‘well-place sources’, believe that Preston North End striker Neil Mellor is not one of the Hornet’s targets this summer.

In other vaguely-related Watford news, former skipper Robert Page has joined Port Vale as Youth Team Coach whilst Jordan Stewart has joined former ‘Orns Darius Henderson and Kenny Jackett at Millwall.
