Watford are hot to trot on Carlisle`s highly fancied 19 year old centre back, Tom Aldred, according to the dog eared local sports hacks at the West Cumberland Times & Star.

The Hornets are even expected to announce the signing of Aldred in the next 24 hours with the 6ft2 defender due in WD18 for a medical TODAY.

Bolton-born Aldred, who has Scottish blood (quelle surprise) having played for Scotland U19 side, is out of contract and available with for only a small amount of compensation after rejecting a “poor contract” from Carlisle.

Cue, a bit of a ding dong again in the tribunal courts again this summer then.

Aldred has come through the ranks at Carlisle and had a spell on loan at Workington AFC just 8 months ago – now, after just 4 starts for the League One outfit – Malky Mackay deems him fit and ready to make the step up.

Ok, so he`s not the experienced head we`re looking for to replace Captain America but the boy must have something?

Aidy Boothroyd was rumoured to be after him last season (and we know what a record in the transfer market he had).
