b>Malky Mackay has confirmed to the Watford Observer that he has had ‘several` loan offers for left-backs rejected.

Without a recognised left-back since Andrew Taylor returned to parent club Middlesbrough in January following a successful loan spell, a left-back has been Mackay`s priority:

“We are absolutely still looking for a left back but they are like hen`s teeth right now.

“The person we bring in has to be better than Lloyd Doyley, someone who is going to add to the group, not someone who is going to be a squad player.

“We have scoured the country and Premiership clubs are loathed to let anyone go because of injuries at the moment.

Mackay continued: “We have enquired about three left backs in the Premiership who were not playing in the first team or part of the squad but now and again, they will make the squad and the clubs will not let them go because they are frightened as it is 28 days before you can call players back, not 24 hours.

“If it was 24-hour call-back right away then it would be so much easier. But it is not and that being the case, it is not easy to find a left back.

Since Taylor returned to the North East, Aidy Mariappa, Lee Hodson and Lloyd Doyley have all filled in at left back and with the latter sidelined again, the search will have to step up a gear.
