Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd is having a long hard look at trialist American goalkeeper Ian Joyce, who will start in net for the reserves tonight at Southampton.

The 6ft3 US stopper from New Jersey, has had unsuccessful trial spells at Crewe and Millwall as he looks to cut the mustard in English football and follow in the footsteps of fellow Yank Jay DeMerit, who has been a revolution since signing from Northwood.

22 year old Joyce, who played for US team Seton Hall Pirates until last summer and captained college side Don Bosco Prep, has turned out for non league outfits Grays Athletic and Harlow on a non contract basis as he looks to find his feet at a higher level.

Here at VitalWatford Towers we really hope that our latest Yankie trialist turns out to be more of a Jay DeMerit than a Tony Meola – the last US keeper to grace a Hornets squad.

Good luck Ian.
