Watford have been quick to distance themselves from speculation linking fans favourite Tommy Smith with a £1.6m move to Championship rivals Cardiff.

Those naughty sports hacks at Sky Sports have been at the epicentre of a rumour that could send shockwaves through Hertfordshire, insisting that Smith was ‘considering` the switch to Wales.

Now Watford have stepped in to put fans minds at rest, stressing through the W`Observer that they “are yet to receive any offers” for the player.

Which is good news as £1.6m is an insult to the club – in today`s market, Smithy is worth £2.5m+ of anyone`s money?

Hornets playmaker Smith is said to have already turned down a summer approach from Stoke whilst Reading, Derby, Blackburn and Hull have all been linked with the player in the last few months.
