Watford have accepted a bid from Aston Villa for striker Ashley Young

The offer for Young is reported to be worth £8m ‘Manager Martin O’Neill has been given permission to speak to the England Under-21 star,’ said a statement on the Villa website.

The in-demand 21-year-old turned down a move to West Ham earlier this week after Watford accepted a £9.65m bid from the Upton Park side.

Villa are thought to have offered an initial £8m for Young, who scored 15 goals for the Hornets last season.

Tottenham were also thought to have been in the hunt for Young and were reported to be ready to offer cash plus Wayne Routledge and Calum Davenport.

Davenport has now joined West Ham on a permanent deal.

Villa boss O’Neill has been keen to boost his attacking options, with Juan Pablo Angel and Milan Baros out of form and Chris Sutton injured.
