Watford finally recorded their first victory of the 2006/07 campaign as they edged out Championship strugglers Hull City in Round 3 of the Carling Cup.

A strong starting line-up took to the field that included only one change from Saturday`s draw at Charlton, Tamas Priskin replacing the cup-tied Tommy Smith on the right flank.

Ashley Young put the Hornets in front with only two minutes of the match gone after Hungarian international Tamas Priskin was upended by Delaney 25 yards from goal. The England Under-21 international curled the ball over the wall to leave City ‘keeper Myhill stranded.

The goal was reminiscent of Young`s strike at Elland Road and against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the first leg of the Championship play-off semi-final.

Watford doubled the lead nine minutes into the second period when Priskin latched onto sloppy header across goal from City defender Ryan France to coolly beat Myhill and claim his debut goal for the Golden Boys.

Former England international Nick Barmby put the Tigers back into the game on 71 minutes with his first touch of the ball after coming on as a substitute. Barmby`s acrobatic bicycle kick from eight yards beat Foster after the ball had pinged around the Hornets box.

The East Yorkshire outfit continued to press the Hornets in the closing stages of the matches but Ben Foster stopped efforts from Yeates and Ashbee to ensure Watford a place in the last 16 of the competition.
