Troy Deeney was beaten to the Championship Player of the Month award by Huddersfield Town striker James Vaughan.

Vaughan scored six league goals in just five outings in September, making him the Championship’s top-scorer – just one goal ahead of Deeney.

With Deeney helping himself to five in as many matches, one could reasonably assume that under the Football League’s see-through decision-making process regarding awards, that Deeney would have scooped the award had Vaughan not scored one more than him.

In the Manager of the Month category, Blackpool’s Paul Ince was given the gong, guiding the unfancied Seasider’s to the Championship summit; unbeaten in their opening five.

Congratulations to James and Paul.
