Watford ran out comfortable winners in their first pre-season match of their training camp in northern Italy, beating a Val Venosta Representative side 5-0.

Fernando Forestieri, Daniel Pudil, Troy Deeney, scholar Carl Stewart and Britt Assombalonga got the goals for the Hornets, who made 10 changes at half-time.

Udinese centre-half Gabriele Angella was included in Head Coach Gianfranco Zola’s first-half XI as the ‘Orns lined up in a 3-5-2 formation once more.

Cristian Battocchio had a goal disallowed early on before Forestieri opened the scoring just after the quarter hour mark; Almen Abdi claiming the assist.

The lead was doubled 15 minutes later when Pudil drilled home a low shot to make it 2-0 to Watford.

Just before the referee blew for half-time, Deeney added Watford’s third with a curling effort to send Zola’s men into the break comfortably ahead.

Scholars Stewart and George Byers as well as first-year pro’ Luke O’Nien were introduced at half-time along with Udinese players Diego Fabbrini and Marco Davide Faraoni.

It was Stewart who got the fourth 10 minutes after the re-start, benefiting from good play by Fabbrini.

With 14 minutes left to play, Assombalonga rounded off the scoring by bagging the fifth.
