Since being promoted, transfer rumours surrounding Watford FC are aplenty, with the Hornets hitting the ‘big time` of the Premier League.

In recent days, one of the more likely transfers that Watford may complete appears to be the signing of Thomas Heurtaux from their affiliate club, Udinese, according to the Watford Observer.

Heurtaux, a 26-year-old French centre back, who has previously had spells at SM Caen – the French club he started his career at – as well as a spell on loan at Cherbourg, currently plays in Serie A for Udinese. The 6ft tall Frenchman has made 25 appearances for the Pozzo-owned Italian outfit this season, making him a fairly regular starter for the Zebrette.

Heurtaux, who has been at Udinese since 2012, is contracted until 2017, but this could soon be cut short, with interest coming from Lyon as well as Watford.

His tall and powerful presence in the backline would undoubtedly be a great addition to the Golden Boys this coming season in their bid to stay in the Premier League, since there have been a few criticisms of Watford`s defending in the Championship throughout last season.

His versatility in playing at right back may also provide much needed cover throughout the physically demanding Premier League season. Moreover, the experience of Heurtaux in playing big sides such as AS Roma and Juventus in Serie A, will only aid the relatively inexperienced squad at Watford FC.

However, since these rumours picked up, Watford have made their first signing of the summer, bringing in Austrian international centre back Sebastian Prödl on a free transfer. Whether or not this signing means that the Heurtaux rumours will die down remains to be seen, but it is not out of the question that the Hornets will make two big signings in defence, given the record of the back line in the Championship.
