The Watford run in the FA Cup is over for another year after the semi-final defeat against Crystal Palace at Wembley on Sunday.

There wasn’t to be any revenge for Watford to the play-off final defeat to Crystal Palace a few years back as it’s them, and not the Hornets, that will take on Manchester United in the final after a two-one defeat.

An early goal from Yannick, as he was left to head home from close range early on from a Yohan Cabaye corner, had Crystal Palace ahead.

The loss of midfielder Etienne Capoue to injury was a major setback for Watford, one that probably didn’t help the chances of us winning this tie, when he was stretchered off with half an hour played

Troy Deeney headed in a Jose Manuel Jurado’s corner 10-minutes into the second half to have Watford level.

However we didn’t offer enough of an attacking threat once again and couldn’t react when Connor Wickham’s header won it for Palace minutes later denying the Hornets the chance of making the FA Cup final once again as we looked to go one step further than the 1984 defeat to Everton.

Quique Sanchez Flores was apparently under pressure to keep his job before this defeat, more so after it!

Semi-final results.

Saturday 23rd April 2016
Everton 1-2 Man Utd

Sunday 24th Apr 2016
Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Manchester United (two-one) had already booked a place in the final next month with a dramatic late against Everton, who looked to have forced extra-time until the injury-time winner took Louis van Gaal’s side to the May final.

A final that’ll see Crystal Palace (two-one) taking them on in a repeat of a classic final from 26-years back.
