Southend United manager Phil Brown has revealed that he would like to sign Watford defender Adam Thompson permanently.

Thompson has been on loan at Roots Hall since the beginning of the season after finding himself surplus to requirements under Gianfranco Zola.

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international – who has captained the side on several occasions recently – is out of contract in June & Brown is keen to tie up a deal.

“We`ve spoken to Watford and also Adam and we want to him to stay with us,” Brown told The Echo News

“We`re actually looking at getting something done that would keep him here beyond the end of the season because his contract is up at Watford then and we want to try and get it sorted.’

Thompson has made 11 appearances for the Shrimpers during his initial six month loan deal, the last of which came against Millwall in the FA Cup 3rd round on Saturday.
