Earlier on Sunday Watford released a statement informing fans that the club had parted company head coach Marco Silva. A few hours later Javi Gracia was named as his appointment.

A statement on the Official Site read.

‘This has been a difficult decision and one not taken lightly. The Club is convinced the appointment of Silva was the right one and had it not been for the unwarranted approach by a Premier League rival for his services we would have continued to prosper under his leadership. The catalyst for this decision is that unwarranted approach, something which the Board believes has seen a significant deterioration in both focus and results to the point where the long-term future of Watford FC has been jeopardised.’

Clearly the statement points towards Everton’s interest in him prior to the appointment of Sam Allardyce.

This had obviously been bubbling away under the surface, as within a matter of hours 47 year old Javi Gracia was announced as our head coach.

He has signed an 18 month contract at the club and has previous coaching experience in Spain, Greece and Russia and will begin work officially on Monday when he leads training.
