Head coach Marco Silva has been speaking about the competition at Watford for places as we go into the weekend’s clash against Swansea City.

Heading to the Liberty Stadium for the game this weekend, Silva explained to the Official Site as he met with the media for his pre game press conference that it was natural to have heavy competition for places if you wanted to be successful, but that naturally means good players can miss out when others are in good form.

A point in case, Troy Deeney who fourth highest goalscorer in history, is in reserve at the moment but Silva explained he’s chomping at the bit to get his first Premier League start of the campaign.

‘Troy is our captain and he did a very good season last season. He needs minutes in his legs but what I saw of him in training, is someone who works hard. I believe he wants more minutes, like all the others, and he works hard for that. It`s normal for the seven who stay on the bench to be frustrated. This is a normal way. It is up to Troy and others to show to me they want to play in the first XI.’

Summer signing Orestis Karnezis is in the same boat at the moment, and Silva went on to add.

‘We have three goalkeepers, not only two. We have Daniel Bachmann, it`s important not to forget him. It is normal to have this competition. Until now it`s only Heurelho. He did well and has started the season well but we signed a new goalkeeper to come here and compete.’
