Head coach Marco Silva has said he’s confident in the Watford group despite our scoreless draw with Spanish side Real Sociedad yesterday.

Hosting the side at Vicarage Road for the Graham Taylor tribute game, John Motson’s emotional speech with Taylor’s family being introduced to both sides didn’t unfortunately transmit to the game itself which was a pretty damp affair.

However it was another run out, Silva would’ve learned a few more things and as well as having a Stefano Okaka effort ruled out for offside, the improvement in the second half would’ve certainly pleased him.

Watford:

Gomes, Janmaat (Femenia 70), Kaboul (Mariappa 79), Britos (Prodl 71), Holebas (Mason 79), Doucoure (Watson 72), Chalobah (Capoue 70), Amrabat, Cleverley (Hughes 71), Pereyra (Success 70), Sinclair (Okaka HT).

Sub not used:

Pantilimon, Bachmann.

Sociedad:

Rulli, Elustondo, Rodrigues (Januzaj 65), Navas, Odriozola (Gorosabel 65), Canales (Prieto 61), Illaramendi (De La Bella 65), Zurutuza, Juanmi (Aggiretxe 74), Oyarzabal (Concha 65), José (Guevara 65).

Subs not used:

Tono, Vela, Pardo.

Speaking to the Harrow Times as he met with the media following the game, Silva said he was ‘confident’ in the squad ahead of the Premier League season to come, but clearly we need to have more of a cutting edge about us in the matches that lie ahead.

‘We have confidence in our players. What`s clear for everybody and I`ve said before is that we need to make moves in the market. That`s not three or four players, that`s more. I know that, the club knows that, and we need to do something as soon as possible to get the right players in. We have confidence in our players and squad, but you need more competition in our attack line and in other positions, because we need to be ready for a hard competition like the Premier League. I want more, and our board know this. It`s not because I want it, but we need to improve the squad.’

Brazilian striker Richarlison was spotted in the stands ahead of a proposed £11.2million move, and Silva said he was hopeful of getting him through the door next week – although there’s no guarantee – as we are waiting on a work permit.

‘We need to wait for a work permit, but at the moment he`s not your player. If everything goes ok, he can come to us and play for us, but for the moment we have to wait. We will see how long it takes.’
