New head coach Marco Silva has said that the ambitions of Watford attracted him to the role as he signed on for the next two years.

Having left Hull City earlier in the week, it was reported he was in talks with FC Porto as well as Watford, and if there was truth to that it appears whatever he was told behind closed doors left him comfortable enough to have another crack at the Premier League in 2017/18 despite our seeming inability to keep a manager longer than 12 months.

Speaking to the Official Site after penning his new two year contract at Vicarage Road, the 39 year old Portuguese explained that our ambitions had attracted him and he was looking forward to the new chapter in his coaching career.

‘Firstly I really like the approach of the board and the owner. They showed me the project and I like the ambition. The club want to improve for the next seasons and this is what I try to fight for in my career as well – to always improve, to do a good job and to ensure a good connection between the manager and the club. The ambition this club has is really important to me.’

Adding.

‘I`m excited. It`s a good challenge and I`m really happy.’

Silva will now lead us into our third successive Premier League season and again survival isn’t the basic aim it is to grow and push up that table now.

‘It`s important to us that everybody knows what our goal is. The club is moving forward as a Premier League club but we always want to improve our position in the table and that`s important for next season. We want to play good football so that our fans feel well when they come to see our team play. We`ll work hard every day to prepare for the matches and to do our best in every game.’

Coming in early, he does of course have the full summer to prepare for next season.

‘First of all I`m excited to be here, to start to work and to prepare for the next season. We will work hard to start well in the Premier League. Everybody knows it`s a hard competition but we come with confidence to improve every day and this is most important for me. This confidence I will pass to our players and to our fans as well.’
