Watford gaffer Aidy Boothroyd has cheekily hinted that the sorry ‘sandy` state of the Deepdale pitch played a major part in the 1-0 defeat to Preston last Saturday?

But a media-savvy Hornets boss still insists “you`ll get no complaints from me”.

Boothroyd went so far as to hint that the Preston playing surface had pulled off a bit of a shock result against his quality-approved Hornets?despite seeing Alan Irvine`s rejuvenated lilywhites pass his side off the poorly conditioned pitch.

In his weekly email to supporters, the Watford boss said “?that`s the thing about football, we talk about winning games on paper, but it`s when you`re actually playing games on grass – or should I say ‘sand` – that throws up the unexpected results.”

Too true Aidy…Looking on as Watford`s midfield failed to get a grip on the game during Saturday`s defeat was indeed like watching a bunch of donkeys stroll up and down Blackpool beach!

Preston boss Irvine though has rebuffed Aidy`s back-handed snipe insisting “We have to live with it. It`s the same for both sides”.
